Hi, here’s the interesting story I want to share with you. On Saturday, my fellow organizer for The Hello Campaign, Simin, met this woman who was was crying by the river. Simin went up to her and said hello and (gasp!) perhaps saved her life.
This was written on our Facebook Group wall by Simin herself. I am reposting the content here totally unedited, with bad English and all.
“Guys !
Allow me to share what happened on Saturday — hello day at Clarke Quay with you .
I was busily strutting down clarke quay saying hello to everyone I have met and was shooed by my team to go eat dinner. there i was sitting at the river side eating my sandwich and I heard someone crying .
looking to my left, I say a lady in her mid 20s crying really loudly. I sat there like a total stranger and 2 thoughts came to my mind .
1. it is none of my business
2. I am really worried of her
finishing my sandwich ,i walked about 20 steps away. but i cant help thinking of her. so i turned back and ask her is she ok. she cried really loudly and told me no , she is not ok.
so i told her that i will be back and when to get a bottle of mineral water and tissue papers for her . thats when i calm her down and she started telling me about her breakup AND she was thinking of committing suicide. talked to her about 1 hour odd until she is better.
afterward, i am going like woa ! what did i just do ! the connection that was made. and guys really everything begins with a simple hello .
if I hadn’t talk to her , I wont have imagine what will happen. or at least she is feeling better. and guess what ? she is a Filipino and she told me that this is the first time that a Singaporean had show her love.
Connection can be forged. all it takes is a simple hello : )
GO SAY YOUR HELLO !”
