Looking Back, Looking Forth…

Posted on 01 October 2009 by admin

Today, is many things. Today is Children’s Day. And today is the National Day of China. Today is somebody’s birthday.

And Today is the beginning of another month.

As say goodbye to the last, let us take a moment to properly shore up the experiences we had, the friends we have made, how each of these moments have played in our lives to make us hopefully a little wiser and happier.

I just lost my phone a couple of days before, and in loosing all my contacts realized how it is so easy to loose touch with the people we know. But just by having them in our contact list, have we really kept in touch with them?

Do you wait for a “right time” before calling them, or messaging them to say you care?

Do we often just let the friendship fade away, and then suddenly wake up one day, only to find those people whom we known suddenly disappeared?

Yesterday, many things happened.

There were earthquakes in Indonesia, tsunamis in the Pacific Islands, and a typhoon in Cambodia. Many people were killed.

The Hello Team expresses our condolences for all those people who suffered in the disasters yesterday. It is not known how we can play a part in helping those people affected yet, but we’ll relay any messages along for those people who are able to immediately help. Anyone who wishes to suggest any avenues where we can help, please do make a comment and we’ll pick it up from there.

While we mourn the loss, it is a very stark reminder for us to take a good look around us and be thankful for all the things we have in our lives.

We don’t need any disasters to remind us how tiny we are, in the face of all things, and how preciously fragile we all are. In the face of all things, we truly are inconsequential.

But we often get so caught up with things that like regretting the past, or worrying about the future, or tiny things like which latest handphone to get, that we forget to cherish what we have now.

Have we said all we really needed to say to the people who are important to us?

It’s an often said that the Past is gone, and the Future is yet to be, and today’s a gift, that’s why they call it the Present!

How are you going to make use of this gift today?

How about making today a Hello day, and call someone you haven’t spoken to for a while? Just to say “Hello!”

For you all, whom has helped us in so many different ways to let Hello grow from a tiny little dream, into all the different campaigns, bringing hello to people in all walks of life, I’d like to take a moment to share my gift of today with you, and wish you a happy day, with my best wishes! I appreciate you and I hope you too, can make the best use of your day today!

As each of us carry our own dreams forth, Hello Campaign too, is nestling a dream. That one day, we can bring our message of connection, and celebration of each other into the world. But this is an active dream. It’s something we are building towards to even now.

Hello is not just about a few campaigns to say Hello to people hoping that they would respond.

It’s about truly reaching out, and making ourselves accessible to another human being. True, we are small right now. And there are so many people who don’t believe it can happen. But I don’t want to have to wait for earthquakes and tsunamis to remind us that at the end of the day, it’s all about what we are to each other.

Nothing else truly matters.

Today is Children’s day. In the heart of a child, every Hello is truly innocent. There is nothing lurking behind that hello, but just one person greeting another person. Another person to play together with. May you celebrate Children’s day properly, by truly saying Hello like a child.

John Lennon once sang this dream in his song “Imagine”.

“Imagine all the people
Living for today”

It is in echoing his wish that we become one people that I hope someday, you’ll join us too!

Make a Great Day!
Hello Team

Speed Hello-ing @ IMM (beta)

Posted on 08 April 2009 by Edvarcl

This is one for the record books. While there’s speed dating (a convoluted process of securing your next dinner date at best), Hello Campaigners tried a variation–speed Hello-ing. It’s fun, it’s exciting and best of all, it’s free! Say hi to as many people as you can in one go. We shall be trying it out on April 11th.

Wanna see it in action across hundred’s of people? Join us on Hello Day at Douby Ghaut this April 11th at 12pm. We will see you there!

The Hello Campaign rap @ IMM

Posted on 07 April 2009 by Edvarcl

The energy level was really up on Saturday at IMM when Hello Campaigners joined forces with Singapore Kindness Movement’s Kindness Troopers for the inaugural opening. In fact, before Hello Campaigners formed up to welcome (because we had the largest volunteer team on the premises) the guest of honor, Lim Boon Heng, Adam, Kaishi and Waihong decided to indulge in a little music ;p

You rock, fellas!

Hello Campaign is interviewed by Suria (Behind the scenes)

Posted on 07 April 2009 by Edvarcl

Our operations manager Didi is given the props as Suria came down to IMM on Saturday to interview him for his role in the Hello Campaign. Suria essentially followed Didi around as he made his Hello rounds across IMM for an hour with a preceding full feature interview.

Great job, Didi! And thank you, Alwiyah from Suria!

You Have Been Hello-ed!

Posted on 04 April 2009 by Andrew

Hello and welcome to the Hello Campaign website!!

Most probably you are here because someone said hello to you today for no random reason at all and you felt strange. Or you felt happy. Or you felt curious and that drives you to the website (after reading the little Hello card we pass to you)

That’s right, we are saying “Hello!” to random strangers in a bid to make Singapore a friendlier place.

In fact, we are gathering more than 500 people to walk along the streets of Orchard Road saying “Hello!” to random strangers on the 11th April! That’s the big day. Details as follows.

Date : 11 Apr 09
Time : 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Venue : White tentage outside Plaza Singapura
Address :Plaza Singapura, Orchard Road

Lots of exciting cool stuff have been going on since we started the Hello Campaign, which includes receiving proposals to bring the campaign international, going for radio interviews and meeting new friends. Stay tuned for updates!
